A couple of years ago, a correspondent to a leading railway magazine bemoaned the situation in which heritage railway companies operated their services on lines which are without any public transport connection to Network Rail stations.

For example, at the time of writing, the narrow-gauge Welsh Highland Railway based at Caernarfon and Dinas in North Wales, is separated from main line rail connections at Bangor and Porthmadog by gaps of a few miles in each direction at the current termini.

The Snowdonian Experience is a company which believes that there are rail enthusiasts (plus their tolerant and patient relatives/friends) who would like the opportunity of a day trip or mini break to enjoy the pleasure of seeing Snowdonia's glorious vistas from the train. They are attracted by the prospect of travelling by steam (or diesel) train through some of Britain's finest natural scenery. The latter includes, for example:

the Aberglaslyn Pass voted by members and viewers of the National Trust and Sky Television to be Britain's finest view

the most visited RSPB Bird Hide in Britain at Pont Croesor where some Ospreys have their habitat.

However, many such would-be visitors have been put off by un-coordinated / absence of organized or integrated bus connections.

This is a situation which The Snowdonian Experience seeks to remedy across Snowdonia.

Currently, patronage of the Welsh Highland and Ffestioniog Railways is largely confined to people who are staying in holiday accommodation or people who are able to access the railways by private transport.

The Snowdonian Experience seeks to extend this patronage within a price range of £50 to £200, depending on the cost of the fares offered by the Train Operating Companies and these are NOT necessarily variably related to the distance travelled.
